 Set of Nine Typical Fixtures

Components of a Typical Fixture

Set of 52 Model CU-DS Fastener Double Shear Test Fixtures
Ranging in Size from 0.112" to 1.250"
Fastener Diameter (Metric Sizes are also Available.)

These fixtures are used to test, in double shear, fasteners (typically metallic) of various types and sizes. A hardened tool steel blade (lower right in the photograph at the right) with an accurately controlled cutout of the diameter of the fastener to be tested is inserted in a fastener support base (lower left) having similar cutouts. These components are mounted in an alloy steel holder (top) for stability. A compressive force is applied directly to the blade to shear the fastener.

A fixture of specific dimensions is required for each fastener size to be tested, either English or metric. Thus, these fixtures are normally supplied in sets of various numbers of sizes as specified by the customer. Custom sizes for testing special fasteners can be fabricated. A typical set of nine fixtures is shown in the left photograph above. Sets of as many as 52 individual fixtures have been fabricated for customers, with sizes ranging from 0.112" diameter to 1.250" diameter, as shown in the third photograph. The smallest of these fixtures weigh on the order of only one ounce, while the largest weigh nearly 50 lbs.
